Italian Bobber

Mama Mia an Italian bobber with Ferrari Part. Based on a Harley EL and using the original 61″ knucklehead engine, this Italo American special construction features a Dino Ferrari carburetor, a 1935 Italian car speedo, and shift via a 1940 Ferrari Testarossa lever! Custom modified frame has a 32-degree rake with no stretch, wheels are 21″ front and 16″ rear, and body work (gas tank, oil tank, rear fender) are massaged aluminum by the Italo crew of Garage 65. Belissimo!!!

Redesigned Tailgunner Exhaust

I like the current 2-1 V&H Tailgunner on the Nightrain, I removed the heat shield and replaced them with heat wraps, giving the Mobber an authentic look.

New Cams

Andrews with custom grinds are drafted in to replace he SE211, with whopping 590 lift. Delivering kick ass torque and performance well above 100 ft/lb of torque.

No Guts No Glory!

Building a Torque monster is not an easy task , specially when mundane parts can’t be found at the HD store, such as Orings!!! The engine has witnessed he following, strip dowm, SE 211 cams removed, new Andrews Cam in, not happy about that splined cam sprocket though. Next stop, 10.25 compression pistons and buttoning up the engine.

Powder Coating

cylinder

I have been powdering parts for my bikes for a long time and truth is I am fed up with black. I discovered a matte metallic grey, that I wanted to try out, now my cylinders and bit of my engine will boast this color.

frontmob The Mobber got some drastic changes over the past 4 days. The front has been swapped from the 5 degrees to a billed cnc 0 rake triple tree, lowered 1.5 inches. with 180 metzeler.

I caught this photoshopped version of the X-bones 2 years ago, I liked what I saw, A non Springer version for the mobber would be a good choice.

Riding the Doughnut.

I had the chance to take the Mobber out last night for a first run to test the 180. The Blitz was there too running dual 180s front and rear. So how does it feel, lets put it this way, the first few meters, I thought I was novice, and about to drop the bike. Lots of under steer, heavy front. Funny enough after a couple of kilometers I felt right at home with 180. Having said that the rake got to go, together with the front lowering kit. The steering needs changing to a forward leaning position and the foot controls needs a 2 inch extension.

Design Goals

Hold on a second. What am I building here? a Mobber = Bobber + Massive Torque.  A Stomper, it has to be old school yet attractive and functional. A bobber however not a replica of the Blitz and definitely not a chopper bobber. One thing is clear though I want it Matte Brown w/ pinstripes.

Out with the 90 in with the 180

El Superbeasto was already built with a rear 20o, 5 degrees rake and a 1550 engine with 9.2 compression and 211 cams. The bike handles OK as a chopper, and stability was not up to par with the 5 degree rake. First on the agenda, was installing a 180 metzeler wrapped don a 4.25” black powder coated rim. Uhh why 180, you ask. Well achieving a fat bobber look is always about that fat front. I ran 150 on the Blitz, it looked and handles great, the 180 will prove to be a challenge.

MOBBER (the story)

This is probably the oldest Harley I have owned. I purchased the bike back in March 2006 as a pet project. The bike was a 2000 Nightrain beaten up with an violet color. After some minor mods to it, my wife decided to keep it. A year late, in the summer of 2007  it saw a major transition toward a custom Harley with a 5 degrees of rake and a 200 rear a mildly modified engine and some neat custom accessories. My wife loved it, It was too fancy for my liking, which prompted me to buy another Nightrain and build my first Bobber dubbed Blitz Bomber. The ride was outrageous, retro looks, great engine. Unfortunately I had to part with my ride, leaving me stuck with El SuperBeasto. Since my wife is not up to riding anymore, I decided revamp the bike on a low budget, while incorporating  the bobber theme.
